Hello Thyroid Family,

How are we all doing in the midst of rain and cold weather? It's very dreary in the UK at the moment but I'm waiting until an acceptable time to put my Christmas decorations up and then I'm sure I'll perk up a bit!

Unfortunately, since the last newsletter, a shortage in NDT (natural desiccated thyroid) medications in the UK came to my attention. In a previous newsletter, I mentioned that there are availability issues with the Thai NDT's at the moment, but it now appears that many other brands are also affected. My own pharmacy gave me a phone call to suggest I stock up on my Armour Thyroid medication as there is a shortage and they're not sure when it will resolve. Currently pregnant, I was particularly worried about this so managed to buy enough to see me through my pregnancy which is my top priority right now.

When asked why there is a shortage, he said that 'Brexit' is already affecting how quickly medications are getting in to the UK. I also read a post on the ITT Campaign Facebook group where another UK thyroid patient was having trouble filling their Armour NDT prescription too, due to a shortage. So it's worth checking with your own pharmacy. Someone in the US told me that there is also some Armour shortages over there as well, so I'm not entirely sure if it is 'Brexit' or more to do with Armour themselves.

Adam and I started recording the audiobook for You, Me and Hypothyroidism last week, which was very exciting. Stay tuned in the next few months for its release! It's on our 'to-do' list to get done before baby is here.

The second edition of Be Your Own Thyroid Advocate, which contains new chapters, resources and expanded information, is also ready to go to the presses.
